PROJECTS:
The diocese assists in supporting three homes for children orphaned by famines and civil war with 210 children under their care. This project known as the Jerusalem Association Children's Homes was established in 1984.
Just after Easter 2007, on 12th April,
the Anglican Church in
Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa got its own Bishop.
Canon Andrew Proud, who had
served for five years as
Chaplain of St. Matthews
Addis Ababa and the Bishop’s
Assistant for the Horn of
Africa, was consecrated as
Area Bishop for Ethiopia and
the Horn of Africa, within the
Diocese of Egypt, North Africa
and the Horn of Africa.
At the consecration service,
Bishop Mouneer preached a
powerful and inspiring sermon
on the importance of being a
shepherd of Christ’s flock. The
Presiding Bishop of the
Province of Jerusalem and the
Middle East, the Most Revd.
Clive Handford, led the
service.
Bishop Ghais abdel Malik was
present and assisted in the
consecration
We are proud to remain part of
the Diocese of Egypt and we
believe the new Episcopal
Area will help us advance God’s Kingdom and the
Church’s mission in Ethiopia
and the other countries of the
Horn of Africa: Eritrea, Djibouti,
Somaliland and Somalia.
Bishop Andrew says that now
the real work must begin —
that of making new Christians
and making Christians new.
Sadly, very few resources are
available for this new work
and much will need to be done
to raise funds to cover it.
However, speaking at the
Local Assembly, in Addis, in
June,
Bishop Andrew reminded
the delegates that if we are
faithful, God will bless and
multiply our work for His
Kingdom. Please pray for us all
at this exciting and challenging
time.
