Message from the Rev Paul-Gordon Chandler
Greetings from St. John's Church in Maadi, Cairo.
We at St. John's Church/Maadi have just finished our major interfaith art exhibition. We had about 1300 attend the exhibition over the last week, so we were most encouraged.
Under the banner On A Caravan: East and West Journeying Together through the Arts, an unprecedented gathering of 20 renowned Egyptian and Western artists, sponsored by our church here, came together to use art as a bridge for intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, toward building bridges of understanding and respect between East and West, Muslims and Christians. Participants ranged from Egypt's internationally respected leading contemporary artist, Mohamed Abla, to more local artists. Each artist produced two pieces of work on ideas that reflect the collective theme: East and West Journeying Together. All 40 works of art were exhibited within St. John's Church, which was turned into a gallery.
All the paintings can be seen and purchased on the website www.oncaravan.org
The initiative has drawn a good bit of attention in the international media. Here are a few articles and an audioslide video that might be of interest:

Last weekend we had the author Philip Yancey with us. He delivered the sermon at St. John's and gave a lecture after the service on the theme of prayer, which his latest book is about. He also spoke at All Saint's Cathedral on his book "What's So Amazing About Grace?".
Thanks for your prayers.
Warmly,
Rev. Paul-Gordon Chandler
